Comprehensive Eye Tests

Our thorough eye examinations help you see the world more clearly. Visit Hampton Graves Eyecare today for a comprehensive eye examination at our Practice in Gateshead.

Eye Examinations

Learn how to get the best out of your eyes with us. Whether you're an NHS or a private patient, we offer comprehensive eye tests that give your eyes a full once over. Just book an appointment with us, and we'll have your eyes checked in no time!

Once we've examined your eyes, we give you a prescription for the eye wear you need, and then just take your pick from the large range of frames we have available. Our examinations usually last 25 to 30 minutes from beginning to end. Just choose a time that's convenient and we'll arrange an appointment for you.

Cost-Effective

A typical eye examination costs £29 and includes digital retinal photography. This allows us to photograph the back of your eyes to see if there have been any changes since your last checkup. We recommend having your eyes checked every two years, but if you are at all concerned about your vision, we can certainly see you more often.

Urgent Problems

Our dedicated opticians take away the stress of an eye emergency. We are here to see you at any time if there is an urgent problem.

Health Benefits

Keep your health in tip-top shape with our eye exams. Eyes are a great indicator of wider health problems. The health checks we carry out at Hampton Graves Eyecare find evidence for a number of health concerns, such as:

Cataracts: A cataract is due to the natural ageing of the crystalline lens, which sits within your eye. This gives a general "cloudiness" to the vision.
Glaucoma: There are several forms of glaucoma but the most common form of the disease is linked to raised intraocular pressure. The optic nerve
becomes damaged due to the raised pressure, and visual loss is experienced in the periphery.
Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD): This is the most common cause of blindness in the Western world. There are two forms of the disease—
"wet" and "dry". The dry form is the most common with about 90% of ARMD sufferers, and the "wet" form is the more aggressive form.
Diabetic Retinopathy: Diabetic retinopathy starts with tiny bleeds in the back of the eye and if left untreated can result in severe sight loss. All
diabetics should have annual retinal screenings, which closely monitors their eye health.
